Landscape of Man, intaglio 1968

This plate was carved in 1968 and reworked from 1994 to 1995. Its 1968 incarnation formed one-half of a two-plate intaglio, the first work of Golahny's to be titled Landscape of Man in the Nuclear Age. She printed the two-plate composition in very few impressions, in green and blue ink. (This print is not featured at this site.) Disappointed with the result, Golahny put aside the large plate and created variations on the theme.

In 1994, after twenty-five years of experimentation with the theme in a number of other works, the artist returned to this plate. She cut the large plate down and printed the trimmer plate, which is what you see here, an intaglio Landscape of Man. This red and blue print is arguably both the first and the last in the series.
